John's boots weren't made for walking

LONDON, July 3 (UPI) -- Elton John, upset because his Concert for Diana finale was cut short, swore at an officer who made him walk to his dressing room at London's Wembley Arena.

Security officers stopped John because Princes William and Harry were due to arrive at the arena for a post-concert party, the London Evening Standard reported Tuesday. The arena is about 200 yards from Wembley Stadium, site of the concert commemorating the princess' birthday.

John was already irked because his final act was delayed by technical problems, meaning he had to cut it short, "which he wasn't happy about," a source close to John reported.

When a security officer told John and his driver they could either park the vehicle and walk the remaining 50 yards, or drive around until the princes were in the building, John said, "Don't you know who I am?" followed by several obscenity-laced comments.

Eventually the knighted singer got out of the vehicle and walked to the arena, telling people to "get out of my way," observers told the Standard.

Sir Elton opened and closed the concert seen by an international TV audience estimated at 500 million.
