During her long career as a writer and illustrator, Williams worked on more than 70 books and was known for bringing style and a unique realism into children's books. Some of her best-known stories include "The Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse" (1938), "The Good Little Christmas Tree" (1943) and "In the House of Happiness" (1946).

During World War II, Williams was one of only a few children's authors who managed to defeat the national paper scarcity and continue publishing, The Independent said.

Married to Peter John Williams, now deceased, in 1935, Ursula Moray Williams worked alongside her sister, sculptor Barbara Arnason, on many art projects.
