Director Scott tops Toronto festival bill

TORONTO, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Director Ridley Scott's new film, "A Good Year," will be one of the top draws at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, a report says.

The Hollywood Reporter said festival execs revealed Tuesday that Scott's new dramatic film, which stars Russell Crowe as an investment banker who relocates to France, will be one of several films to make its world premiere at the event when it begins next month.

The 68-year-old British director's last collaboration with Crowe was the historical epic "Gladiator," which won the Academy Award for Best Picture after it was released in 2000.

Joining "Year" for their world premieres at the Sept. 7-16 event will be Anthony Minghella's "Breaking and Entering," French director Patrice Leconte's "My Best Friend," and the Dutch-language thriller "Black Book" from "Basic Instinct" director Paul Verhoeven.

Altogether the annual Canadian festival will feature a total of 352 films from 61 countries with 62 of the featured films representing directorial debuts, the newspaper said.
