Acclaimed Korean director a Venice judge

VENICE, Italy, July 4 (UPI) -- Italy's Venice International Film Festival has announced the members of its jury, and Korean director Park Chan-wook is among them, The Korean Times said.

Screenwriter/director Park won three awards for his revenge trilogy, "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance," at the 2005 film festival. He also won the Jury Grand Prix for "Old Boy," part two of the trilogy, at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, the Times reported.

Other judges selected by the festival's board of directors included Spanish director and screenwriter Juan Jose Bigas Luna; Portuguese producer Paulo Branco; U.S. director, producer and screenwriter Cameron Crowe; Russian actress Chulpan Khamatova; Italian actor and director Michele Placido, and French actress Catherine Deneuve.

The film festival jury chooses winners for Best Film, Best Director, Special Jury Prize, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Young Actor or Actress, Best Technical Contribution and Best Screenplay.

The festival is scheduled to run from Aug. 30 to Sept. 9.
