LOS ANGELES, March 4 (UPI) -- John Travolta and Queen Latifah are reportedly on board to star in Adam Shankman's film adaptation of the Broadway musical "Hairspray."
Travolta will portray downtrodden housewife Edna Turnblad while Latifah will play civil rights activist and dance show host, Motormouth Maybelle, Daily Variety reports.

A nationwide search is being conducted for the lead role of Tracy Turnblad, played by Ricki Lake in John's Waters' original film and Marissa Jaret Winokur in the Tony-winning stage musical.
Shooting is scheduled to start in September in Baltimore and Toronto with an eye toward a 2007 release.
