'Brokeback' takes top Orange Bafta

LONDON, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Ang Lee's gay western, "Brokeback Mountain," won Orange Baftas in London Sunday night for best film, best director and best supporting actor.

"Capote" star Philip Seymour Hoffman won the best actor Bafta and Reese Witherspoon was named best actress for "Walk the Line" during the ceremony at Odeon Leicester Square, the BBC reported.

Britain's own, "The Constant Gardener," took only one award of the 10 nominations it had received, in the film editing category.

Jake Gyllenhaal won best supporting actor for his "Brokeback" role and Thandie Newton won best supporting actress for "Crash," which also garnered a best original screenplay award for Paul Haggis.

Nick Park's animated "Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit" was named best British feature and the first film special achievement award went to "Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice" director Joe Wright.

"Memoirs of a Geisha" won awards for best soundtrack, cinematography and costume design.
