Scott, Crowe to reunite for 'Gangster'

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- It looks like Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe will be reunited in the long-delayed "American Gangster," also starring Denzel Washington.

Universal pulled the plug on the 1970s crime drama in 2004 and now either the studio will go ahead with the Brian Grazer-produced drama or let a rival pick it up, Daily Variety reported.

Variety said at least two other studios are circling if Universal decides this week to cut the drama loose.

Grazer developed the drama from a New York magazine article by Mark Jacobson about a Harlem heroin kingpin who smuggled the dope in the coffins of U.S. soldiers returning from Vietnam, Variety said.

Crowe and Scott just completed "A Good Year" and previously teamed up for "Gladiator."
