NEW YORK, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- While Time magazine named U2 frontman Bono and Bill and Melinda Gates its "Persons of the Year," several others were tapped as "People Who Mattered."
The runners-up list ranged from religious and political leaders to businessmen, celebrities and even a fictional villain, CNN noted.
U.S. President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, CIA officer Valerie Plame and her husband Joseph Wilson, Pope Benedict XVI and "Star Wars" Darth Vader were all tapped by the magazine.
Others include former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Apple Computers Chief Steve Jobs, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice, actress Geena Davis, activist Cindy Sheehan and rap star Kanye West.
Readers of Time of Kids chose Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling as "Person of the Year" with Tour de France champ Lance Armstrong coming in a close second, CNN said.
