Carey, West and Legend get 8 Grammy nods

NEW YORK, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Rapper Kanye West, R&B crooner John Legend and pop diva Mariah Carey each received eight Grammy nominations announced Thursday in New York.

Beyonce Knowles, 50 Cent, The Black Eyed Peas Will.i.am and Stevie Wonder each grabbed six nods while Missy Elliott, Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen, Gwen Stefani and U2 received five nods each.

Four nominations went to Common, Destiny's Child, Foo Fighters, Gorillaz, Neptunes, Brad Paisley, Phil Tan and Gretchen Wilson.

Carey and West will compete for album of the year against U2, Gwen Stefani and Paul McCartney. The duo will take on Stefani, Green Day and the Gorillaz for record of the year.

Legend heads up the best new artist category along with Ciara, rockers Fall Out Boy and Keane and country music's SugarLand.

The 48th Annual Grammy Awards will be handed out Feb. 8 in Los Angeles. The show will be broadcast live on CBS.
