Air America apologizes for fake Bush shots

NEW YORK, April 28 (UPI) -- The liberal Air America radio show has apologized for a broadcast that simulated shooting President Bush with a shotgun for his Social Security policies.

Host Randi Rhodes apologized for "bad taste" in Monday's routine in which she began by saying, "A spoiled child (Bush) is telling us our Social Security isn't safe anymore, so he's going fix it for us. Well, here's your answer, you ungrateful whelp."

The sound of three shotgun blasts followed, the New York Post reported Thursday.

"I apologize a thousand times," Rhodes said Wednesday on WLIB-AM, New York.

A spokesman for Air America, Jon Sinton, added, "Our normal vetting process failed ... and we regret it."

The Secret Service said Wednesday it was investigating to see if the broadcast constituted a threat to President Bush.
