Kenny Chesney is top tour ticket seller

NASHVILLE, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Country music's Kenny Chesney ended his 2004 U.S. tour as the top ticket seller in any genre with more than 1 million seats sold.

Chesney played his final tour stop Saturday in Nashville, where RCA Label Group executives presented the singer with a platinum ticket representing 1,197,992 tickets sold for 64 shows this year, said a release from Chesney's publicist.

Chesney was on track in June as the No. 3 ticket seller behind Prince and Britney Spears, but the final totals pushed him ahead.

"You are now officially the biggest ticket seller in any kind of music," Louis Messina, tour promoter, told Chesney in front of the sold-out crowd at Saturday's show.

Chesney's tour grossed more than $64 million and set attendance records at the Houston Rodeo & Livestock Show and in St. Louis, the release said.

The singer's 2003 tour finished as the third largest U.S. tour, behind the Dave Matthews Band and Bruce Springsteen, Pollstar said.
