Promoters slash ticket costs to fill seats

LOS ANGELES, July 30 (UPI) -- U.S. concert promoters have slashed ticket prices to as low as $10 for acts including Korn, John Mayer, Snoop Dogg and Ozzfest in an effort to fill seats.

The price cuts were in response to a sluggish industry that found Lollapalooza, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Marc Anthony canceling tours, Norah Jones downsizing to smaller venues and major acts, including Eric Clapton and Jessica Simpson, struggling to sell tickets, Rolling Stone reported Friday.

Top U.S. promoter Clear Channel Entertainment dropped prices at Northern California venues to $20, including parking and fees.

The company also put lawn seats at concerts in Nashville, Tenn., and San Antonio on sale for $10.

House of Blues' promoter put $20 lawn seats on sale for 80 shows in 17 venues.

"It is a stimulus. If a show has been on sale for five months, you do a discount to give it a renewed sense of urgency," said Alex Hodges, executive vice president of House of Blues Concerts.
