Trapp clan set for world concert tour

VIENNA, July 29 (UPI) -- The world will come alive with the sound of music again when the fourth generation of the Trapp family embarks on a world tour next month.

A spokesman for the family said Wednesday four grandchildren of Werner von Trapp -- Sofia, 15, Melanie, 14, Amanda, 12, and Justin 9 -- will tour Australia and New Zealand from Aug. 13 through Sept. 11 and fulfill concert dates in the United States and Europe later this year.

It will be the first time any member of the Trapp family has performed since the retirement of Werner a generation ago.

The young Trapps will stick to the traditional family repertory of German and Austrian folk songs and will also include music from the Richard Rodgers-Oscar Hammerstein II Broadway hit musical made into an Academy Award winning film, "The Sound of Music," based on their great-grandmother Baroness Maria von Trapp's 1949 book, "The Trapp Family Singers."

The family singing group was organized after the Trapps fled Nazi rule in Austria just before World War II and sought refuge in the United States.
