Spector lawyer withholds mystery evidence

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Los Angeles prosecutors in the Phil Spector murder trail allege the music producer's lawyer is withholding evidence.

It is thought to be an item that the defense attorney's team of investigators discovered at the crime scene, according to E! Online. Robert Shapiro was accused by Deputy District Attorney Douglas Sortino as Spector and Shapiro made a brief court appearance Thursday.

Spector is charged with the shooting death of 40-year-old B-movie starlet Lana Clarkson on Feb. 3, 2003, the night he met her at the House of Blues.

According to court documents, the club hostess agreed to go home with the producer for a "sexual encounter." Spector's driver left them at Spector's suburban Los Angeles mansion at 3.30 a.m., returning at 5 a.m. when he heard a shot. When police came, Spector kept his hands in his pockets, and police used a stun gun on him before arresting him.

He has pleaded innocent to charges.
