David Spade to do gig on 8 Simple Rules

HOLLYWOOD, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- David Spade has signed on to do a multiple-episode guest shot on ABC's "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter."

The actor-comedian will play a relative of the family at the center of the Touchstone TV show, which has undergone a transformation this season following the death of star John Ritter in September, the Hollywood Reporter said Thursday.

It's still undetermined whether Spade will do two or three episodes, a Touchstone spokeswoman said.

Spade is being courted by several networks to develop a starring comedy vehicle, but the deal with ABC and Touchstone currently only covers his services on "8 Simple Rules."

It's also unclear when those episodes will air.

"8 Simple Rules," which dealt with the death of Ritter's character in an hour-long episode that aired earlier this month, is on production hiatus until after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Production on Spade's episodes will probably begin next month, the spokeswoman said.
