SEPA releases 2007 rankings

WASHINGTON, July 28 (UPI) -- The U.S. Solar Electric Power Association announced its Top 10 solar utilities.

According to its rankings, at the end of 2007 Southern California Edison was the U.S. utility with the most megawatts of solar electric capacity and the most solar capacity per customer.

However, with so many solar projects under contract, Julia Hamm, SEPA executive director, said it is highly likely SCE will not hold the same rank by the end of this year.

California-based Pacific Gas & Electric provided the most solar energy per customer, according to SEPA's statement of rankings.

In the public power utility category the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power held the most solar integrated overall, and Kauai Island Utility Cooperative in Hawaii held the title of highest capacity per customer.

In addition to California and Hawaii, Illinois, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin also made the Top 10 in different categories.
