LM wins $344M tech services contract

SEABROOK, Md., March 28 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin has won a $344 million Pentagon contract for Next Generation Technical Services.

The company said in a statement last week that the contract was for the running and upkeep of high-performance computing centers at four major Department of Defense scientific research sites under the Department of Defense's High Performance Computing Modernization Program.

Lockheed Martin said it would produce the systems administration, computer operations and management, systems integration, applications and user support, and data visualization services for all those four Pentagon Major Shared Resource Centers.

The four centers are: the U.S. Navy Oceanographic Office at Stennis Space Center, Miss.; U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, Miss.; Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio; and Army Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

The HPCMP reports to the U.S. deputy undersecretary for defense for science and technology, and it provides services for the DoD's Research and Development and Simulation and Test communities such as supercomputer operations, high-speed network communications and computational science expertise, Lockheed Martin said.

Lockheed Martin said there would be what it called "a two-month transition period" before it began full operations under the contract June 1. The contract has a one-year $85 million base year with four one-year options and was given by the General Services Administration in Atlanta.

Lockheed Martin said it would work with industry teammates High Performance Computing Technologies Inc., Reston, Va.; Quantum Recruiting, Dallas, Texas; and Victory Solutions, Huntsville, Ala., on the project.
