Kuwaiti emir returns home

KUWAIT CITY, Jan. 15 (UPI) -- Kuwait's emir returned home Tuesday after a four-month stay in London where he underwent treatment for a brain hemorrhage.

Upon arrival, Sheikh Jaber Ahmed al Sabah was greeted by Kuwaiti Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Saad al Abdallah al Sabah and other high-ranking officials.

Hundreds of Kuwaitis lined the streets to greet Sheikh Jaber, waving Kuwaiti flags and shouting get-well wishes.

A number of Arab and Gulf countries' leaders congratulated the Kuwaiti Emir on his safe return home.

Sheikh Jaber, who has ruled oil-rich Kuwait since 1978 and escaped an assassination attempt in 1985, was flown to London Sept. 21 after he collapsed.
