Rheinmetall upgrading unidentified country's air defense system

An unidentified country has contracted Rhainmetall to upgrade its Skyguard air defense system.

DUSSELDORF, Germany, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Rheinmetall AG has received a $423.5 million order to modernize the Skyguard air defense system of an unidentified country.

Rheinmatall's Skyguard is a medium- and short-range system for inner tier and asset protection and is a combination missile/gun system.

Under the contract, Rheinmetall will provide new radar technology, including target tracking radar; a latest-generation friend-foe identification system; and various other new electronic warfare components.

The systems' missile launcher will receive a new state-of-the-art electronic pod to enhance missile capability.

Delivery of the updates will begin in 2017 an end in 2020, the company said.

Additional details of the work was ot disclosed.
