BAE Systems to provide radar support for U.S. Air Force

WASHINGTON, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force has awarded BAE Systems a five-year contract to support the Instrumentation Radar Support Program.

The contract, valued at approximately $278.5 million, will be obligated in increments. BAE Systems will be tasked with providing serviceable components and subsystems for 28 test ranges, enhancing radar and tracking capabilities.

"Our employees average more than 20 years of experienc in test range operations, maintenance, and system sustainment," BAE Systems Intelligence & Security president DeEtte Gray said in a statement. "this team of experts understands the IRSP mission and how to design, develop, and deliver cutting edge instrumentation support."

BAE Systems has managed the IRSP since 1985. The program was put in place to provide multiple government agencies with similar radar and tracking systems. The program currently supports over 500 systems.

Work on the contract will be performed at BAE Systems' IRSP facility in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. The Air Force expects the work to be complete by December 2020.
