New Navy PBL contract for F414 engine components for GE Aviation

LYNN, Mass., Jan. 7 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted GE Aviation for the repair, replacement and support of components in F414 engines used by its fleet of F-18 aircraft.

The contract is a three-year performance based logistics award with a value of $460 million and is the latest in a series of PBL awards for the F414 given to the company since 2002.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to continue our successful collaboration with the Navy to provide a comprehensive, integrated, and cost-effective solution ensuring F414 readiness for our customer," said Scott Snyder, GE F414/F404 PBL Director.

The F414 is made by GE Aviation. It is used to power F/A-18E/F Super Hornets and EA-18G Growlers and is rated at 22,000 pounds of thrust.

It has also been selected to power variants of Saab's Gripen fighter and India's Light Combat Aircraft.

Work under the new contract -- including the supply of parts -- will be conducted at company facilities in Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Kentucky.
