ARCHBALD, Pa., Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin said Wednesday it has received a four-year U.S. Navy contract to produce Paveway II enhanced laser-guided training rounds.
The training rounds emulate cockpit indications, release and terminal characteristics of the Paveway II laser-guided bomb to provide high-performance aircrew training without depleting the tactical inventory of the weapon.
Lockheed has delivered more than 130,000 of the training rounds to the U.S. military and the armed forces of allied countries since 1992, it said.
"Lockheed Martin remains committed to providing U.S. Navy aircrews with the most innovative, advanced and cost-effective training solutions," said Joe Serra, precision guided systems manager at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. "We are nearing completion of multi-carriage ELGTR development, which will further increase training efficiency, proficiency and flexibility."
Lockheed said the Navy contract is a four-year, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity award with a value of $84.5 million. In addition to the training bombs, it covers shipping containers, logistics and product support.
Additional contract details were not disclosed.
