SHELTON, Conn., Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Sikorsky Aircraft's modernized S-61T helicopter, which features an integrated glass cockpit, has completed its maiden test flight.

The aircraft is scheduled to be delivered to the U.S. State Department in the first quarter of this year, followed by a dozen other upgraded Sea Kings.

"The first flight of the S-61T represents a major milestone in the program," said Steven Rogers, Director S-61 Programs. "The modernized S-61T helicopter can be outfitted to meet a wide variety of requirements, and we believe it provides best-in-class-value for a midsize, multimission helicopter."

The S-61T has undergone full structural refurbishment and overhaul of all major components. Key upgrades include new composite main rotor blades, a survivability suite and state-of-the-art glass cockpit, as well as new electrical wiring throughout the aircraft.

The State Department has so far received 16 refurbished S-61 aircraft from Sikorsky, which is supplying 13 of T variant aircraft under a five-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity agreement for as many as 110 S-61 helicopters.
