Northrop to support London police communications

LONDON, July 23 (UPI) -- Britain's Metropolitan Police Service, which operates in the greater London area, is to receive a new command-and-control system from Northrop Grumman.

Northrop said it is supplying its CommandPoint application to the police, which will serve "as the core solution" for Scotland Yard's new command and control requirements.

"This is an important award for us that acknowledges our leading capability in public safety command-and-control application systems," said Jim Myers, vice president and general manager, Cyber Solutions division, Northrop Grumman Information Systems. "We are very pleased to be working with the Metropolitan Police Service, and we look forward to building a strong partnership with them and delivering this world class capability."

Scotland Yard plans to go live with its new command-and-control system in 2015. The system will manage all incoming, emergency, non-emergency and internal calls.

The London Ambulance Service implemented CommandPoint for its emergency calls last year.

"We are pleased to be involved in this program which we recognize as being crucially important to the Metropolitan Police Service," said Andrew Tyler, Northrop Grumman's chief executive for the United Kingdom and Europe. "This contract award enhances the range of capabilities that we bring to our customers as we broaden our portfolio in international markets. We look forward to building on this success and to expanding our presence in this U.K. market."
