Rockwell Collins benefits from LAS program

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, April 15 (UPI) -- Rockwell Collins reports it will supply navigation and communications gear for the U.S. Air Force Light Air Support program.

The equipment will be installed on A-29 Super Tucano aircraft from Brazil's Embraer, which will assembled in the United States for supply to Afghanistan.

The Air Force, over objections from Beechcraft Corp., awarded the LAS contract to Embraer and Sierra Nevada Corp. in February.

"The program reinforces our commitment to Embraer to provide industry leading navigation and communication equipment for its aircraft," said Troy Brunk, vice president and general manager of Airborne Solutions for Rockwell Collins. "Rockwell Collins has a long history of supplying reliable, cost-effective solutions to our customers that are on time and on budget. We look forward to continuing that tradition on this program."

More than 100 U.S. suppliers in 20 states will provide parts or services for the LAS program, the company said.
