GenDyn, JBT extend military work

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich., April 3 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army and Air Force have separately issued contracts worth a combined $47 million for tanks and equipment support.

The Army contract, given General Dynamics Land Systems, is a $40 million modification to an award for procurement and production of M1A2 (M1A2S) tanks for Saudi Arabia, which was given to the company in 2008 by the Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command.

The modification extends the work update M1A1 and M1A2 tanks to the M1A2S configuration until the end of July next year.

General Dynamics Land Systems said the work under the modification will be conducted at a manufacturing facility in Ohio.

The Air Force contract, worth more than $7 million, was given to JBT Corp.'s JBT AeroTech business in support of the service's fleet of Halvorsen 25K loaders.

The loaders are used load, unload and transport palletized cargo as well as vehicles onto military and commercial aircraft.

The award extends service for the loaders until early next year.

"We are very proud to continue supporting the mission critical engineering and logistics needs of the U.S. Air Force through our Halvorsen program," said John Lee, vice president and division manager of JBT AeroTech.
