MADRID, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A passive high-resolution primary radar that produces images using inverse synthetic aperture radar technology has been developed by Indra of Spain.
Indra said the system's development and demonstration was sponsored by the European Defense Agency in a two-year project called Array Passive ISAR Adaptive Processing and involving a number of European organizations.
"Indra has implemented the most complex and innovating signal processing algorithms in this solution, such as STAP (Space Time Adaptive Processing) and non-deterministic digital beam forming techniques," Indra said.
The system's smart functionalities have turned it into the most advanced solution available right now and the only system that can offer high-resolution images."
Passive radar, which uses signals present in the environment, does not emit radiation. Indra's system uses Digital Terrestrial Television signals as the non-cooperative sources of illumination in the environment and its new advanced inverse synthetic aperture radar processing capacity, resulting in the use of the target's movement to obtain its radar image.
