Honeywell avionics picked by Embraer

PHOENIX, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Embraer of Brazil has chosen the Primus Epic integrated avionics system of U.S. manufacturer Honeywell for its second-generation of E-Jet aircraft.

The Honeywell system integrates navigation, communications and display systems in the cockpit. It also adds synthetic vision and advanced flight management for better situational awareness and more fuel-efficient, direct approaches at airports.

"Honeywell's Primus Epic is an incredibly innovative, highly integrated and proven technology that makes flying safer and more efficient," said John Bolton, president of Honeywell Aerospace's Air Transport & Regional business unit.

"Our avionics systems are found inside the world's most successful aircraft, including Embraer's existing 170/190 E-Jet family of aircraft.

"We look forward to continuing our partnership and pursuing additional E-Jet opportunities that our exceptional breadth of products and services affords us."

The long-term contract is worth about $2.8 billion, the company said. Original Equipment Manufacturer and after-market services from Honeywell are part of the overall agreement.
