New Air Force missile order

ORLANDO, Fla., June 29 (UPI) -- Nearly 200 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles are being produced by Lockheed Martin for the U.S. Air Force under a new $241.6 million contract.

Test instrumentation kits and systems engineering support are included in the award for JASSM Lot 10 production for baseline JASSMs and Lot 2 production of the extended-range variant.

"Lockheed Martin's JASSM baseline missile and ER variant provide the warfighter with critical capabilities and a wide range of mission options not available with any other system," said Alan Jackson, JASSM program director in Lockheed Martin's Missiles and Fire Control business.

"Our ongoing focus is to ensure our customers receive a highly reliable and sustainable weapon system at an affordable price to meet their requirements."

The JASSM is an air-launched 2,000-pound cruise missile with a dual-mode penetrator and blast fragmentation warhead. Both baseline and ER variants employ infrared seekers and Global Positioning System receivers.

Lockheed Martin said the JASSM-ER has a range 2 1/2 times father than that of the baseline variant.

Lockheed Martin didn't disclose a delivery timeline for the 191 baseline JASSMs and 30 JASSM-ERs.
