BUFFALO, N.Y., June 21 (UPI) -- A mobile air defense threat simulator has been successfully demonstrated by Northrop Grumman in a U.S. electronic warfare range concept test.
The demonstration took place as the U.S. Naval Air Station Everett Annex in Washington and involved an E/A-18G Growler electronic attack squadron.
"Utilization of equipment such as the Joint Threat Emitter enables the Navy to provide the most realistic training for its combat aircrews, while providing significant cost savings to the squadrons located at Whidbey Island," said Joe Downie, site director of Northrop Grumman's Amherst Systems business unit.
The JTE enables aircrews to train in threat environments simulating actual combat conditions. It simulates single and multiple surface-to-air missile attacks and anti-aircraft artillery radar systems, Northrop Grumman said.
"JTE offers 'true' warfighter training …," the company said. It "provides a modern, reactive battlespace war environment designed to help train military personnel to identify and effectively counter enemy missile or artillery threats."
