Radar system delivered to Indonesia

MASSY, France, March 27 (UPI) -- Indonesia has received and commissioned a third long-range air defense radar station from Thales Raytheon Systems of France.

The radar delivered and commissioned earlier this month was the third and final radar delivery to Indonesia under a 2008 contract from the Indonesian Ministry of Defense and Indonesian air force.

"The Indonesian air defense radar program was challenging both from a technical and logistical perspective, with the installation of radar systems on islands in some of the most remote parts of Indonesia," said Philippe Duhamel, chief executive officer of Thales Raytheon Systems, French Operations.

The radar achieved the Site Acceptance Test on Feb. 24 and was commissioned March 5. The first two systems were commissioned last year. The radars have been placed in eastern Indonesia.

Thales Raytheon said that for the next Indonesian radar station project, TRS has teamed with PT Ebdesk and PT LEN Industri, a state-owned company, and will transfer air defense radar manufacturing skills and expertise to help the country achieve its long-term air defense and air surveillance requirements.
