DCNS wins maintenance work on frigates

TOULON, France, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- French naval defense company DCNS has received a four-year award for through-life support services to two French navy frigates.

DCNS said it and its program partners will compete for two major refits to the Horizon class Forbin and Chevalier Paul and also perform three intermediate maintenance projects.

"DCNS is delighted that the French navy, and especially Fleet Support Service, have put their trust in us for this major program," said Thierry Kalanquin, senior vice president, of DCNS's Service unit.

"We'll be taking a long-term approach with the right industrial organization to anticipate the customer's requirements and optimize maintenance planning.

"Sharing tasks with industry partners and experts will deliver even higher levels of service at lower cost."

DCNS will be prime contractor for maintenance of all shipboard systems except the PAAMS weapon system.

A total of 10 major equipment manufacturers -- half of them Italian companies -- will be working on the contract as part of the DCNS team, the company said.
