Sikorsky, Danish Aerotech eye teaming

SHELTON, Conn., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- U.S. and Danish aerospace companies may establish a logistics support facility in Denmark for maritime helicopters operated by the Danish navy.

Sikorsky Aerospace Services said it has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Danish Aerotech A/S to discuss the project if Denmark chooses to purchase Sikorsky's MH-60R Seahawk.

"The combined experience of our two companies can bring the Danish navy high-quality logistics support services to ensure mission and flight readiness for the 30-year life of the MH-60R helicopter fleet," said Sikorsky Aerospace Services Vice President Frank DiPasquale.

The Danish Defense Acquisition and Logistics Agency is evaluating the MH-60R to replace aging aircraft.

The Sikorsky Seahawk, based on the Black Hawk used by the U.S. Army, is for anti-submarine and anti-surface ship missions as well as search and rescue, medical evacuation, surveillance, transport and supply missions.

More than 100 of the helicopters are in service with the U.S. Navy.

Denmark is expected to make a decision this year on its helicopter purchase program.

Sikorsky Aerospace is the aftermarket division of Sikorsky Aircraft. Danish Aerotech is a development and support company for aircraft and missile systems and components.
