Besides the Hermes 900 UAV, the contract calls for Elbit Systems Ltd. to provide the requisite command and control terrestrial stations as well as Elbit Systems Electro-optics -- Elop Ltd.'s state-of-the-art DCoMPASS payload systems and relevant radar components.

The Elbit Systems Hermes 900 UAV is designed for medium-altitude, long-endurance tactical missions, with a flight time of more than 30 hours and can reach altitudes of 30,000 feet. The Hermes 900 UAV weighs 2,138 pounds and has a payload capability of 660 pounds, allowing it to carry offensive munitions systems as well.

The new contract build upon a May 2010 Israeli air force award to Elbit systems of $50 million three-year contract to supply the Hermes 900 UAV, which has full interoperability and maintenance capability with the Elbit Hermes 450 UAVs already deployed by the Israeli air force.
