ST. LOUIS, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- Manufacturing services company LaBarge Inc. is expanding the type of electronic assemblies it makes for Raytheon's Joint Standoff Weapon system.
The company said the contract from Raytheon is worth $1.2 million and that it expects Raytheon will place follow-on orders for complex electronic assemblies for the JSOW.
"This new contract expands LaBarge's role to include printed circuit card assemblies in addition to cable assemblies and wiring harnesses for the JSOW weapon system," said Craig LaBarge, company chief executive officer and president.
The Joint Standoff Weapon system is a family of affordable, air-to-ground weapons that employ global positioning satellite information to guide the weapons to the target. More than 400 JSOWs have been used in combat operations.
The weapon's standoff range of about 70 nautical miles allows its delivery from well outside the lethal range of most enemy air defenses.
The company has supported the JSOW program since 2005.
LaBarge, a Raytheon preferred supplier, is performing the new work at its Tulsa, Okla., operations.
Production on the contract is expected to continue through the end of the year.
