M Cubed developing new armor for Marines

TRUMBULL, Conn., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- M Cubed Technologies Inc. has been contracted to develop advanced, lightweight armor for the U.S. Marine Corps' Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle.

The award to the Connecticut firm is part of the U.S. Navy's Small Business Innovation Research program.

"The mission of our defense business is to utilize M Cubed's breakthrough ceramic technology to equip U.S. military personnel with state-of-the-art armor that provides maximum protection for our troops."

The Marine Corps EFV is an amphibious armored vehicle designed to carry U.S. combat forces over harsh terrain. The contract provides the initial funding for the development of new, ceramic-based armor that will offer the U.S. Marines and their EFVs better protection against enemy ballistics, enhanced survivability in combat areas and reduced weight for greater maneuverability.
