Austrian firms to improve drone capability

VIENNA, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Austrian companies PIDSO and Schiebel are working together to improve the capabilities of Schiebel's new Camcopter S-100 drone aircraft.

The Camcopter S-100 is a vertical takeoff and landing aircraft and is being marketed in the United States by Boeing, the companies said in a news release.

"The Camcopter S-100, as high-tech product, requires specific and complex solutions," said Schiebel Chief Executive Officer Gerhard Peller. "In PIDSO we have found a competent partner who allowed us to react fast for client-specific requirements."

Under the partnership agreement announced Wednesday, PIDSO will supply Schiebel with advanced lightweight antennas, including its horn and tail antennas for the Camcopter and a monopol to be used for the aircraft's ground tracking station.

PIDO said its antennas are more than 40 percent lighter than those of competitors, giving unmanned aerial vehicles longer flight time and greater weight and payload capability.

Schiebel's aircraft is day/night operational and has a beyond line-of-sight capability of more than 100 miles.
