Egypt picks F-16 countermeasure suites

FARNBOROUGH, England, July 20 (UPI) -- The Egyptian air force has picked Raytheon to supply integrated electronic warfare suites for F16 fighters it recently agreed to purchase from Lockheed Martin.

Under Egypt's Peace Vector VII program, Raytheon will provide Lockheed Martin with its Advanced Countermeasures Electronic System as well as related spares and maintenance support for the aircraft, Raytheon said Tuesday in a news release.

The ACES comprises a radar warning receiver, jammer and chaff-flare dispenser.

"The need for advanced, extremely accurate electronic warfare technology continues to be a critical element for every warfighter operating in a combat environment today," said Scott Jackson, general manager for Raytheon's Electronic Warfare Systems business. "Our ACES self-protection system will identify potential threats, pinpoint their locations and jam them.

"ACES delivers the latest capabilities in enhanced situational awareness and supports improved survivability to aircrews as they operate in ever more challenging environments."

The Egyptian air force is buying 20 Block 52 F-16s from Lockheed Martin.
