Saab Systems Pty Ltd. valued the contract at $32 million.

It said Australia's military also ordered Sea Giraffe systems for its Canberra class amphibious ships in a deal worth $15.6 million.

"We are extremely proud to have been selected by the Australian Defense Force to meet their exacting requirements for an advanced, operationally proven and off-the-shelf radar system," Micael Johansson, senior vice president of Saab's business area Electronic Defense Systems, said in a news release.

"This further underscores Saab's strength as a radar supplier and the capability of our Giraffe system."

The Giraffe AMB is a flexible, multi-mission series of modular surveillance systems. Its ground units not only give early warning of attack by missiles, rockets and mortars but also pinpoint their firing location for defending troops.

Saab said the system is in production and is being used by the armed forces of Sweden, France, Estonia, Britain and others.
