Northrop Grumman to bid on Army RRRP

ORLANDO, Fla., May 7 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman says it is developing a next-generation radar replacement proposal to address a solicitation from the U.S. Army.

The Defense Department's weapons testing sites at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, the Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona, the Aberdeen Test Center in Maryland and the Redstone Test Center in Alabama are all operating outdated radar technologies developed in the middle of the 20th century.

In a move to modernize the radar equipment, the Army has called on the defense contractor community to respond to its Range Radar Replacement Program competition.

U.S. company Northrop Grumman announced plans to submit a bid on the RRRP contract vehicle drawing on its experience with advanced radar technologies, open architecture, system-of-systems solutions.

"The Army has a critical need to enhance the test effectiveness of its test ranges and lower the cost of radar operation and maintenance," Karen Williams, Northrop Grumman Information Systems Air and Missile Defense Systems vice president, said in a statement.
