GD awarded modification for sub repairs

GROTON, Conn., April 8 (UPI) -- General Dynamics announced it received a contract modification from the U.S. Navy for the company to continue repairing the USS Hartford submarine.

U.S. defense company General Dynamics says its Electric Boat unit received the contract modification. Under the $36.6 million deal, General Dynamics will continue repairing the USS Hartford (SSN-768) to return the submarine to operational readiness for the Navy.

The repairs on the USS Hartford, which was damaged by a collision with USS New Orleans dock ship in the Strait of Hormuz, involve a complete restoration.

According to a news release Electric Boat will continue work fixing the USS Hartford "including fabrication and installation of a hull patch, bridge-access trunk, port retractable bow plane and the sail."
