TEWKSBURY, Mass., Feb. 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force has awarded Raytheon a follow-on contract to upgrade Patriot missile technologies as part of an ongoing missile refreshment program.
U.S. company Raytheon says its Integrated Defense Systems unit was awarded the follow-on contract from the Alabama-based Army Aviation and Missile Command.
Under the $58.2 million deal, Raytheon will upgrade 124 of its Patriot Advanced Capability-2 missiles to the next-generation Guidance Enhanced Missile-Tactical configuration. The upgrades are part of an effort to extend the life of the missile technology and improve performance.
"Patriot is combat proven and trusted by 12 nations around the globe, and the continuing upgrades speak to the critical role Patriot plays in those country's air and missile defense capabilities," Sanjay Kapoor, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems Patriot Programs vice president, said in a statement.
