TEWKSBURY, Mass., Nov. 24 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted Raytheon to provide the new Zumwalt-class destroyer (DDG 1000) program with its software technologies.
U.S. company Raytheon was selected for the contract to provide open architecture software capabilities that will support Zumwalt destroyer propulsion, power and damage control systems among others.
Under the $241.3 million deal, Raytheon will deliver its expandable open architecture "computer-graphical user interfaces and a technical data- manager capability," a release said.
"This is the most readily expandable, sophisticated software suite ever designed for a naval surface combatant, allowing the warfighter to address threats faster and more effectively than ever before," Robert Martin, Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, vice president and deputy of Seapower Capability Systems, said in a statement.
"The high level of automation and intuitive human- computer interface of the ship's systems will dramatically reduce manning, resulting in significant cost savings for the Navy."
