Under the deal, Alion will provide TARDEC with research and development support to help ensure the mobility, survivability and electronics capabilities among other lifecycle requirements for manned and unmanned ground vehicle technologies.

"Improving the safety, versatility, fuel efficiency and effectiveness of ground vehicles is crucial to the success of our warfighters in future conflicts," Timer Keenan, Alion senior vice president and manager of the strategic operations group, said in a statement.

"Alion has the technical and operational strengths to help TARDEC make those improvements, and we'll look beyond the usual sources to find solutions. We may incorporate ideas from specialty manufacturers and the motor sports industry, for example, and we can bring in the right partners to help us fully develop those concepts."
