OSHKOSH, Wis., Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Oshkosh Corp. has been awarded a follow-on contract to support the U.S. Army with additional mine-resistant, ambush-protected all-terrain vehicles.
U.S. company Oshkosh was awarded the contract from Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command Life Cycle Management Command. Under the $438 million deal, Oshkosh will deliver an additional 1,000 of its M-ATVs to support U.S. operations in Afghanistan.
Officials say the follow-on order for M-ATVs, designed to provide troops with an MRAP capable of greater maneuverability, brings the total number of vehicles Oshkosh has been contracted for to more than 6,200.
"The most significant way we can show support for our armed forces is high rate, quality production of these important vehicles that provide the mobility and survivability necessary for the harsh Afghanistan terrain," Robert Bohn, Oshkosh chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
"Additionally, through our extensive network of aftermarket services, we are supporting the vehicles in-theater with parts supply and field service representative support."
