L-3 contracted for laser marksmanship tech

NEW YORK, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- The U.S. Army has awarded L-3 Communications a follow-on contract to deliver its laser-based marksmanship simulator system designed to support soldier training.

L-3 said its Virginia-based MPRI unit was awarded the contract from the Army's Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation. Under the $15.5 million order, part of the company's $48.7 million indefinite delivery indefinite quantity contract, is for L-3 to deliver its Laser Marksmanship Training System.

The L-3 simulator technology is designed to provide individual and unit marksmanship training to sustainment and advance marksmanship capabilities.

"MPRI is honored to be afforded the opportunity to support the U.S. Army's marksmanship training needs," Bob Garner, MPRI's Training and Technology Group senior vice president and general manager, said in a statement.

"This program will enhance the skills and experience of our young warriors and contribute to their survivability on the battlefield."
