SAR S-92 helicopters mark milestone

STRATFORD, Conn., June 22 (UPI) -- Sikorsky announced its Search and Rescue S-92 helicopters have marked a milestone following more than 1,000 of operational flight hours in the United Kingdom.

U.S. company Sikorsky says its SAR S-92 helicopters, operated by CHC Helicopter Corp., are deployed for service in the North Sea and North Atlantic regions. Since the S-92 helicopters began service, CHC has logged more than 1,000 flight hours of SAR services for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency in the United Kingdom.

Officials say the hours of operation marked a milestone for the company and have included more than 240 rescue missions in Stornoway, Scotland, and another 150 operations deployed from Sumburgh, Scotland.

"We began introducing the new-technology aircraft to the service under a new contract nearly two years ago and our S-92 helicopters in Stornoway were the first to go live," Ian McLuskie, CHC Search and Rescue U.K. SAR manager, said in a statement.

"This 1,000-hour milestone really highlights the extent to which the service is called into action and consistently proves its value in often challenging circumstances. It is also a great credit to our technicians who keep the aircraft operational 24-hours a day."
