OSHKOSH, Wis., June 19 (UPI) -- Oshkosh Defense has achieved a milestone following the completion of 7,500 miles of testing for its all-terrain mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicle variant.
Wisconsin-based Oshkosh Defense says its MRAP All Terrain Vehicle has completed more than 7,500 miles of independent testing. Conducted at the Nevada Automotive Test Center, the number of miles the M-ATV has been tested marks a milestone in the vehicle's development.
Officials say the milestone achievement for the Oshkosh M-ATV, developed to meet the harsh terrain of military operations in Afghanistan, puts the vehicle on target to complete 10,000 miles of testing.
"This is a significant milestone that showcases the durability and off-road capabilities of the Oshkosh M-ATV," Andy Hove, Oshkosh Defense president, said in a statement.
"We are committed to providing the U.S. Armed Forces with a high-performance vehicle that answers the urgent-need requirement in Afghanistan. Our independent testing is helping us accomplish that."
