MAYNARD, Mass., May 12 (UPI) -- The Royal Military College of Canada has selected SiCortex to supply its computing technologies to support the design of an energy-efficient aircraft.

U.S. company SiCortex was selected by the military college's researchers for its high-productivity computing system as part of a project to address the escalating costs and environmental impact of current aircraft systems.

Royal Military College of Canada, using SiCortex's technologies, is working on wing design and aircraft configurations in a move to improve efficiencies and to develop a next-generation aircraft that can support lengthy combat missions.

"As a focused institution, we don't have the resources to support a massive computing infrastructure, so it was critical to find a system that met our space and energy-efficiency requirements without sacrificing performance," Ruben Perez, an assistant professor in the college's mechanical engineering department, said in a statement.

"The SiCortex system puts the power of (high-productivity computing) technology right in our lab at a fraction of the ownership costs of other systems."
