Vought orders parts from CPI Aero for C-5A

EDGEWOOD, N.Y., April 1 (UPI) -- Vought Aircraft Industries Inc. says it has placed an order with New York-based CPI Aerostructures Inc. for supply parts supporting a U.S. Air Force contract.

CPI Aero officials say the $1.5 million Vought order is for metal-bonded wing panels and door assemblies among other supply parts for the company's contract of C-5A Galaxy aircrafts with the Air Force.

The new contract from Vought brings the total amount of awards CPI Aero has received in 2008 to $10.6 million. Officials say the more than $9 million jump in contract awards over figures from 2007 is largely due to subcontracts from major U.S. defense contractors along with big commercial aerospace companies.

"This increase in subcontract awards is a result of our continued efforts to diversify our customer base and increase the proportion of work performed in our capacity as a subcontractor to major prime contractors and is a testament to the quality and timeliness of the assemblies we continue to provide to all of our customers," Edward Fred, CPI Aero president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
